Case Study Traditional Dairy Farming Nestled in the heart of East Lothian Yester Farm Dairies can be found. Run by husband and wife duo, Simon and Jackie McCreery, Yester Farm Dairies is an incredibly successful farm business, with many awards under their belt for their outstanding produce. With their herd of 400 Holstein-Freisan’s enjoying fresh grass and open fields, Simon and Jackie McCreery have created wonderful dairy produce, from milk and cream, to cheese and crème fraiche.

The farm is only one of two remaining dairy farms in East Lothian, and this dynamic and forward thinking duo have ensure the farm continues to thrive. Encouraging the age-old tradition of doorstep deliveries, Yester Farm have been keeping the heritage alive with traditional dairy farming.

Joining together with the local community, the farm opened up to visits from local schools, keen to introduce them to a working farm and show them where their food comes from and how the rural industry works. Working with local universities, they have also helped veterinary and agricultural students develop their skills and help promote their future.

Farming today faces many new challenges, and changes, something the McCreery’s are aware off. Taking note after Brexit and discovering that importing mozzarella in Italy was more expensive that buying it in the UK, they took the initiative and decided to create their own delicious Scottish version of fior di latte. Promoting the ‘farm to fridge’, Yester Farm Dairies produces fresh and high quality products. Their on site pasteurisation and cheese factory (in the converted grain shed) meant that the product does not travel far before being delivered to their happy customers.

With their main focus on Scotland, they are hoping to widen their ventures and break into the rest of the UK, and promote the best of Scottish farming.
