Case Study Dunvegan Castle & Estate Restoration Isle of Skye www.helpingithappen.co.uk
Case Study Dunvegan Castle & Estate Restoration Sir Reginald MacLeod opened Dunvegan in 1933 for charitable purposes two days per week. Today our visitors can enjoy tours of an extraordinary castle and Highland estate steeped in history and clan legend, enjoy our formal gardens, get up close to a seal, stay in our holiday cottages or campsite, enjoy a meal at the MacLeod Tables Cafe and browse local produce in our shops.

As the home of the clan MacLeod for 800 years, Dunvegan Castle is a major heritage attraction and key driver of economic growth on the Isle of Skye, acting as a magnet for over 168,000 visitors each year.

Ranked 18 out Scotand's Top 20 Paid Attractions by the Moffat Centre last year, the Estate is one of the island's largest private sector employers with around 60 employees, 17 of which are permanent.

Annually the estate contributes £700,000 through a combination of employment, purchase of local goods and services and since 2008 alone, it has contributed in excess of £5.2m to the Skye economy.

The estate's vision to preserve, share and develop this iconic part of Scotland's heritage was recognised by a 5* Visitor Attraction Award three years ago.

Sustainable improvements include the restoration of the castle's roof, windows, collection and interior state rooms, castle gardens, car park, shops, campsite and the development of new micro enterprises.

While Dunvegan Castle & Gardens are the showpiece, we recognise the holistic nature of the modern visitor experience; one which encompasses heritage, architecture, horticulture, nature, retail and hospitality.

With the unrivalled beauty of our coastal and mountainous landscapes, nature and the purity of the environment are vital elements which can be experienced in the delicate fusion of our bespoke offerings.
