Case Study Mr Jazzy Potato Growing Project The Mr Jazzy Potato Project is coordinated by The Royal Highland Education Trust in Perth & Kinross.

The project is delivered by volunteers and offers pupils the opportunity to plant their own crop of Jazzy potatoes and watch and learn about the growing process, before finally harvesting their own crop.

The project is sponsored by WCF Horticulture who provide the necessary resources required and offer technical support.

There are almost 1000 pupils in Perth & Kinross taking part in the project and it has been running for a number of years. Each class is offered a visit from Mr John Marshall who visits classes to tell them all about growing potatoes both on the farm and in the garden. He also teaches about the health benefits of the potato, the machinery used, the importance of soil and what is done with the harvested potatoes.

In addition, each class with be allocated a local farmer to come in to help with the harvest – one of the best parts of the project. The project is tied in with the Curriculum for Excellence and a Teacher's Pack has a number of worksheets to assist the project.
